A Beautiful Role Model

Annette Funicello, the most beloved Mouseketeer and Skippy Peanut Butter mom, has died of multiple sclerosis complications at 70 years of age. This beautiful lady was an inspiration and role model for lots of women, myself included, for many decades.

It was shockingly heartbreaking to hear of her devastating diagnosis in 1987 but, equally amazing to see her fight the degenerative disease so admirably through the years. I read she had said in 1992:

"I think you have two choices in this kind of situation. Either you give in to it or you fight it. I intend to fight."

Thanks for fighting so hard, Annette. And, thanks for teaching me that if I worked diligently enough I might became a budding ballerina, a talented singer, a gorgeous television/movie starlet, a kindhearted and soft but well spoken girl next door, or the role I seemed to have chosen from your leadership, being a picky and choosy mom.

We will miss you! WHY? Because we love you!

(And, female role models are a little sketchy for little girls these days)
